I have no idea what's happened to me all of a sudden. I've gone on 3 dates with 3 different guys in the past 6 days. Who knew I had it in me?!? I went out with the larper on Saturday. No, he didn't show me his "sword" but he didn't show me much of a personality either. We walked around the zoo for 2.5 hrs, and he spent every moment spouting out factoids about each reptile, primate, and big cat. Needless to say, zero chemistry. Fortunately, he thought so too and emailed a very nice "let's just be friends."
That same Saturday morning, I found a speed dating event happening that night at a jazz club. I took a deep breath and signed myself up. Carpe diem, right? Everyone says I was brave to go, I think I was just desperate! :) But I ended up having a really great time. 8 out of the 9 guys were well-educated, attractive, interesting men. After the event, you go to this website and click on the guys you were interested in. I got 6 matches! Slight dilemma however: 2 of the guys are friends. We'll call them Real Estate Rocker and Cute Shy Catholic Guy. I wasn't really interested in RER, but he emailed me right away and asked if we could go to lunch whereas CSCG hadn't emailed me. So we went to lunch yesterday, and got along pretty well. Would definitely go out again, but.....CSCG also emailed me! His subject line was "Six minutes wasn't enough." Awwww, I just melted! He said "We must hang out. How about I call you?" That was 2 days ago. I gave him my info but haven't heard from him....I'm worried that since they're friends, RER and CSCG compared notes and CSCG doesn't want to get in between me and RER now...man.....
Today I went on another lunch blind date with a guy an acquaintance arranged. He was a big nerd. Sorry. I love nerds as much as the next girl, but I need nerds with personality! And humor! This one didn't have much.
I also have season tickets to the opera and am part of their young professionals group. The show's tomorrow night, and there's a mixer beforehand, so we'll see if my luck with the menz continues!
Oh, I'm also going out next Saturday with another speed dating guy, Half-Danish Designer. He and I hung out at the jazz club after the speed dating and had a lot in common. But I got an immaturish vibe from him. Sure enough, he's only 23!!! A baby!!!! I'm turning 27 in a few weeks. I don't know about this one....but he's such a cutie and loves Guitar Hero as much as I do. Maybe I'll just have a bit of fun being a cougar.... ;)
I made a New Year's resolution to go on 10 dates with 10 different guys this year. At this rate, I might reach that number by the end of the month!

Ho Ho Ho
Merry Christmas Eve, my darling friends! Hope that Santa brings everything you wished for this year.
Nothing much new or exciting to post about, been emailing a few guys from match.com lately, which has lifted my spirits. One's a 24 yr old from Connecticut. I'm turning 27 soon (!), so would that make me a cougar? Oooh, I hope so! Another one, which KA laughed about, is a renaissance sword fighting aficionado-and he teaches it too. I'm praying he's not a LARPer, or Live Action Role Player, for those who didn't watch this season's Beauty and the Geek. It's been fun just emailing folks, even if it's not a romantic thing. I seem to have lost contact with a lot of my old friends, and sometimes it's lonely not being able to chat with them. But enough of my whining and reminiscing. It's Christmastime!

The Age Old Question
Sorry I've gone over a month without posting, girls and guy. I was getting good for awhile! Work has been really busy lately, and I'm having to juggle with a few projects before the holidays along with a few family Christmas card designs. Joy. But I can't complain that I don't have enough work, last year I was freaked out that I would end up flat broke on the side of the road. So this is a huge plus!
Anyway, moving on to that age old question: why is it that the guys you like don't like you back, and you don't like the ones that DO like you? Grr...so I'm on a few online dating sites right now, as well as my matchmaker, and still! No luck! Seriously folks, I'm wondering if this is God's way of telling me I should be a nun. Seriously. I don't really want to be, but I'm kinda running out of options here!
Some funny stories as of late: my matchmaker was able to find me a guy, we'll call him the Boring Teacher, BT, for short. On paper he sounded great. Early 30s, liked going to museums and artsy things, athletic, tall, applying to get his PhD. But OMG, he is so boooring. I've gone out with him twice now. And twice, after each date, he gives me a handshake. WTF?!? I met another guy at a young asian professionals club I joined (ugh, don't get me started on me joining all these asian groups because of my dad...). I don't know what kind of friendly vibes I was giving out, but he called/texted/emailed non-stop, multiple times a day, for a good 2-almost 3 weeks, until he finally got the hint after I never responded to his calls.
For Christmas, my sister got me a 3 month subscription to Match. So here we go again.....the funny thing is that I forgot to change my zip code at first. So within the first few minutes I got all these responses from SoCal guys. Great! But then when I switched it to my Houston address...zip, zilch. Ah, redneck Texans, not interested in asian girls. Excuse me while I settle in front of the tv and watch The Sound of Music. Mother Superior, is that you I hear calling me?

You know you're in Texas when...
...a woman threatens to beat her child right in front of you. True story. I was at the zoo this weekend with my little niece when this little blonde girl, who couldn't have been more than 5, walked towards me crying. No one seemed to claim her, so I asked her, "Are you lost?" "Now she ain't!" came the retort next to me, by this snippish butch woman. I walked in front of them, eavesdropping on this redneck woman chastising the poor, sobbing little girl, "You better be glad we're in public, otherwise I'dve beat you!" But it gets better! They met up with another butch woman who said, upon seeing them, "Did ya beat her?" Yeah....living in the South is greeeeaaaat sometimes.
Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, I was in sunny California for a few weeks for t-shirt biz stuff. I got to hang out with G and KA a few times, which was much much MUCH fun! I miss hanging out with them and talking about tv and work gossip. I was living in Apply Valley, capitol of nothing fun and everything dry. It took me 3 hours one morning to drive down to Los Feliz to have breakfast with a friend, and I ended up having to drive to Vegas in order to catch a flight back to Houston because the air quality and fires were still raging near the freeways I needed to take down to Ontario. But all in all, a fun trip. Next week we head to Ohio for another t-shirt show, which should be good, fingers crossed!

Wasting away on the World Wide Web
So...nothing exciting going on right now. At least, nothing exciting enough to blog about. Yesterday I did a whole lotta nuttin'. Guess I had a case of the Mondays (a la Office Space). And I've also felt like I'm in a rut, regurgetating old designs for new clients. Sure, they all look different. But in a way, it's all the same to me. I need to find a place here in H-Town that inspires me, like Black Market and GR2 did, down on Sawtelle. I think it's the curse of being a freelance designer. Great hours, but there's no one around you to inspire you to push your designs further, and to try new techniques and learn new applications. To be cutting edge here in Texas is a bit tough.
But I did dug up some old websites that I had bookmarked on my previous computer, they're fun for inspiration and shopping, and overall lazy browsing. They've made me feel a little better today. Thought I'd share, in case you're ever in one of those "There's nothing good on the internet" and "I'm so uninspired" days. So, in no particular order, here they are:
http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels
Yes, I am a big Heroes nerd, and I am proud to admit it. I just recommended these to KA as well. Each week, NBC posts a new comic strip with some back story highlighting one of the Heroes. It fills in a lot of questions you have, and it's a great way to kill time.
www.plumparty.com
One of the coolest places online to buy dishes, stationary, coasters...all the stylish entertaining supplies you need to host the swankiest dinner party.
www.reformjewelry.com
Jewelry that's not really in my price range, but they're pretty to gaze upon.
www.seejanework.com
Office supplies for the trendy divas in all of us
www.fredflare.com
I haven't really figured this one out, haven't bought anything from them. But from my quick browsing, it looks like cute designer clothes for a cheap price....?
www.thumbtackpress.com
For the budding art collector, like myself, who can't afford original paintings. Thumbtack sells prints from up and coming illustrators for reasonable prices. One of the girls that used to work for Mattel actually has a few pieces up (Shiho) too.
www.etsy.com
Another art collecting site, of sorts. But this one does have original art, jewelry, clothing, all handmade, and at affordable prices.
http://ecofabulous.blogs.com/ecofabulous
"Sustainable.Sexy.Stuff." The tagline says it all.
http://craftzine.com/blog/
When did craft magazines get so...cool? Definitely one to check out for listings of cool stores and How-Tos on a bunch of different crafty fun times.
That's all I've got for now. My good friend, CC, always links to cool blog sites, but she put them on a random loop. So I never remember the ones I like! I'm still on the hunt to find the hip spots around my neighborhood. There's a few new cupcake and coffee shops with free WiFi I'd like to try out. Maybe people watch, and just step away from my house for a few hours a day. Find a place where everybody knows my name, kinda like ML and her 7-11. ;)

The Joy of Shopping
After my "Schlumping" post, I decided to go out and do something about it. Namely, online shopping! Target came out with their new GO collection, which is a little borderline Victorian frilly and over-the-top 80s, in my opinion. But I bought this cute black shirt dress, and have gotten a lot of compliments on it so far. I just bought a whole bunch of other tunics from the collection online, we'll see how it goes. Also had to buy the black tights to go with the outfits so I can wear them during the winter. I haven't worn black tights under dresses since the 5th grade. So in the next few weeks I'll either look really cute or 10 years old. I must add black ballet flats to my wardrobe too. And a basic white button down shirt. Oh, and this adorable blazer from J.Crew, and maybe some herringbone brown slacks. Ah, the possibilities are endless!
I also have fallen in love with a new show, Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. As with What Not to Wear, these makeover shows are superior by far to all the other ones. The stylists actually know what they're talking about, and they know the difference between just buying clothes and buying "fashion." I've realized now that I should never wear a skirt that falls below my knees or capris, because they make me look stumpy (stumpy+schlumpy=bad combination). My new black dress, for instance, falls right above my knees and holy cow! I've got nice legs and don't look as stout as a teapot! Anyway, there's also this great blog from the Bravo website, Steal vs. Splurge. I added a link to the side of my blog; I hope this blog continues because the writer has some great suggestions on what fashion pieces to splurge on, and what cheaper versions you can buy: http://www.bravotv.com/blog/stealvssplurge
It doesn't help G out much, but maybe for the rest of you fashion mavens, there's some fun tips!

This is where the magic happens
That's what he said! Sorry, just had to throw that in there! G said it to me the other day, I had completely forgotten about that classic phrase ML got us hooked on. Anyway, I finally finished my "office" and cleaned it up. I'm so proud of how it looks I thought I'd take photos. This is where all the creative sparks fly. Here, and downstairs in front of the plasma TV. :)
The view when you walk in the door
My little laptop and desk area
The thought spot, where little thinking actually takes place
The work table (inspired by my previous place of employment)
Elfa storage for all my t-shirts, neatly folded and organized thanks to Container Store
The napping nook
My wall of inspiration, notice the awesome "Christmas Darth Vader"
