Saying farewell

So my sisters called me on Sunday morning to tell me my grandfather was admitted into the hospital. They called throughout the day, and he passed away that evening. I don't know why, maybe it's because I'm all the way over here in L.A. and everyone else is in Houston, but I'm not that sad. Of course when I go home and see all the tears and attend the funeral I'm sure I'll cry too. But I'm honestly happy that he has moved on. Is that wrong of me? I knew that he had wanted to go for quite awhile now, since he had a stroke. So he no longer has to suffer. He's finally at peace. I don't know how hard this must be for my grandmother, and I haven't really heard from my dad. Everyone has been so great in expressing their condolences, and that's been so sweet. But I'm starting to feel guilty that I'm not as sad as everyone expects me to be. Maybe I'm still in shock...

Woes of Wintertime

I'm sick. I hate being sick. Then again, I don't know anyone who actually enjoys being sick. But this really sucks. I haven't caught a cold for 2 years, but I think that being overloaded at work, traveling, and volunteering has finally caught up to me. My throat feels like it's been rubbed raw on the inside and is completely swollen, I've let my apartment become a pigsty, and I'm afraid I'll miss all of the good Christmas parties! >:( ML's got a good one coming up, and our department christmas party, themed Worst Prom Ever, is next Tuesday. I already bought a hideous prom dress and everything. I guess the only plus side to being sick is missing work. I've been out for 2 days now and haven't missed a minute of it. I only have work for 1 more week and then I'm on vacation for 3 blissful weeks. Woohoo!
But back to being Debbie Downer, my roommate is having financial aid difficulties so I covered her rent for December, and I'll probably have to do it for January, which means I'll be out $1000. I can't exactly kick her out, since she's one of my best friend's little sisters. But I don't know how to handle this situation tactfully without looking like I'm a scrooge.
Ah well, I'm just going to curl up back into bed with my tissues, Ricola, and Harry Potter. Or HGTV. Or Amelie, I haven't decided yet.
